Design Clinic Facility:
The Design Clinic Facility (DCF), under the aegis of the National Research Development Corporation (NRDC), is a strategic model of design intervention, where a solution to an existing design problem is diagnosed and remedial steps suggested by a multidisciplinary team of design experts. The facility aims to promote innovation and help entities move from conceptual designs to tangible products or solutions. NRDC will provide consultancy services, leveraging expertise from conceptualization to prototyping to meet the specific needs of each stakeholder.

The main goal of the Design Clinic Facility is to assist Startups/MSMEs/Industries/Academia in designing, improving, synchronizing as per various regulatory guidelines, their products through design intervention, enabling them to be more competitive in the global market. The DCF focuses on providing services that help improve the aesthetic, functional, and marketability aspects of products. 
 

Objective:
•    Create a sustainable design ecosystem for the Startup sector through continuous learning and skill development; 
•    Develop an institutional base for the industry’s design requirement; 
•    Increase the awareness of the value of design and establish design learning in the Startup;
•    Increase the competitiveness of local products and services through design;
•    Promote export and substitute import by creating innovative product;
•    Assist the Startups by engaging external design expertise in form of consultancy;
•    Promote, nurture and advance the culture of design and innovation in the country leading to significant contributions and breakthroughs impacting quality of human life.
•    Building the design capability of Startups to enable them to improve business performance and to compete in the global market.
•    Bring the Startups sector and design expertise on a common platform and to provide expert advice and cost effective solutions on real-time design problems.

•    Product Design
The process of imagining, creating, and iterating products that solve users’ problems or address specific needs in a given market.

•    Mechanical Design
Focused on creating mechanical systems, components, or products. It involves the application of principles from mechanical engineering, physics, material science, and mathematics to design, analyze, and optimize mechanical systems that perform specific functions. 

•    Electrical Design
The process of planning, creating, and implementing electrical systems and equipment to perform a specific function.

•    Industrial Design
Industrial design deals with the design of physical products, from consumer goods to machinery. Industrial designers focus on improving the usability, aesthetics, and functionality of products while considering manufacturing processes and sustainability.

A.    2D Design & Concept Sketching: Create hand-drawn or digital 2D sketches of various concepts.
B.    3D CAD Modeling & Digital Prototyping: 
•    Develop a 3D CAD model using software like Solid Works, AutoCAD, CATIA, or Fusion 360 and 
•    Perform ergonomic and functional assessments.

C.    Industrial Design Registration Service (If required): Design protection services are essential for safeguarding intellectual property. These services ensure that original ideas, concepts, and creations are legally protected against unauthorized use, reproduction, or infringement by third parties.

D.    Engineering Analysis & Simulations: 
•    Conduct FEA (Finite Element Analysis) for strength and durability.
•    Perform CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) if the product involves airflow or liquid flow.
•    Ensure material optimization for cost and efficiency.
E.    CAM Integration: Generate CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) files for CNC machining, 3D printing, or other manufacturing processes.
F.    Assembly Instructions: Assemble individual components into a complete model, ensuring proper fit and function.
G.    Prototype Development and Testing: Create physical or virtual prototypes to validate the design and develop a preliminary model to test functionality and usability.
H.    Design Refinement & Finalization:
•    Implement changes based on prototype testing feedback.
•    Optimize the design for mass production, material efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
•    Finalize detailed drawings, BOM (Bill of Materials), and technical documentation.
I.    Tooling & Manufacturing Setup:
•    Develop molds, dies, and jigs if required for mass production.
•    Select the right manufacturing process (Injection Molding, Sheet Metal Fabrication, CNC Machining, etc.).
•    Ensure the design complies with industry standards & certifications.
J.    Production & Quality Control:
•    Begin small batch production for further validation.
•    Perform quality inspections & testing for defects and tolerances.
•    Optimize the supply chain and logistics for efficient distribution.
