Title of the Innovation: Process Technology for Separation of Glass and Phosphor from Waste CFL’s

Brief About Innovation

Introduction

Fluorescent phosphor is coated on glass tubes which are filled by mercury vapors to make fluorescent lamps. The inner lining of fluorescent tubes are coated with phosphors, which absorb the ultraviolet light from electrically charged mercury vapor and re-emit visible light based on a mixture of blue, green and red emitters. The present technology enables complete recycling of these lamps. Metallic components, Glass and phosphor powder can be very easily separated.

Applications

 • Process can be applied to waste CFLs

•  Night glowing toys

•  Tube lights and spent LEDs
