SOLAR POWERED WATER PUMP

(A Stand alone Water Pumping Station for Agriculture in Rural Area using Solar Power and AC Induction Motor)

RENEWABLE energy sources are becoming a viable substitute for conventional energy sources.  They find extensive application in remote areas where access to the grid supply is impractical. Lot of developments are done world wide in solar power applications. Solar energy is abundantly available and is the most popular and practical form of energy for low power applications like Pumping.

Most of the Solar Photo Voltaic (SPV) operated water pumping systems today are connected directly to the solar arrays and use DC motor driven pumps.  This system is easy to operate but is inefficient and requires frequent maintenance for the DC motor.

The Solar pump operated with AC Drive uses an Inverter and an AC motor. AC Induction Motor offer better choice in terms of size, ruggedness, efficiency and maintainability.  The DC power from the solar array is fed to an inverter which gives a 3-phase, variable voltage, variable frequency AC supply output. The 3-Phase output of the inverter drives a 3-Phase motor coupled to a Water Pump.  The advantage of this scheme is that it incorporates a dynamic variable speed operation to suit the Maximum Power Point of the solar panel.
