RETRACTABLE ANCHORING & LOCKING DEVICE
|
RDSO has developed
retractable anchoring & Locking Device for locking and holding of freight
containers of different types when being transported on railway wagons or
road trucks. The use of the device is
related to the growth of containerised transport in the country. Such
transport is coming up both with increasing use of containers by railways and
with increase in use of containers for imports/exports. It estimated that
about 1000 fittings would be required by the Railways per year. The retractable anchoring
and locking device comprises of a spindle housed within a shank member. A
twist lock head having a profiled shape corresponding to the oblong of a
corner block is mounted on the spindle. An angular displacement results in a
corresponding angular displacement of the lock head which is lock head which
is locked within the opening of the corner block thereby facilitating the
locking of the container on a rail vehicle. In order to prevent undesired
unlocking action, a spring-loaded handle is pivoted on the lever of the
spindle. The handle is provided with a stop. A spring plate fastened on the
upper surface of the handle is also provided. The stop rests in serrations of
this guide plate in position and angular displacement of the spindle
prevented. The present device, the
shank and the twist lock head are retractable. This is done by pointing a
lodge on the shank. The lodge is adopted to rest in a groove on a plate head
adjustment to the shank. The lodge and the groove provide a bearing means for
taking vertical load during the locking action. It also supports the shank in
unrestricted position. Locking means is also provided to prevent a
displacement of the shank member and twist lock. RDSO has prepared prototypes
of the device at their workshop and have checked the working of the same. The device can be
manufactured by any general engineering workshop having facilities castings.
Use of jigs for inter-changeability and easier assembly is recommended. |
