POLYMERIC BLEND FOR DOMESTIC SWITCHES

Presently in India the urea and Phenyl Formaldehyde are used in Electrical accessories like switches, plugs, sockets etc. These  material are brittle while most of the developed countries uses Polycarbonate which are resilient material and expensive.

ERDA in Vadodara has developed a Polymeric blend that is economical as Formaldehyde and having properties similar to Polycarbonate. It has withstood the tracking resistance at 250 Volts. Other properties are as follows:

·              Mechanical strength( Specimens were subjected to 10 blows of suitable impact test             apparatus),  the result was that no cracks were observed

·             Ball Pressure Test at 125 deg Celsius: The Depth of indentation was less than 2mm.

·             Water absorption at ambient temperature for 24 hours, (%):    0.7.
