MAGNESIUM  SILVER CHLORIDE SEA WATER ACTIVATED BATTERY

Developed at Central Electro-chemical Research  Institute, Karaikudi.

This is a reserve cell system activated by sea water at the time of Power requirement. The important features of this system are its long shelf life, high power and energy density, quick activation time and high reliability. Because of the above characteristics Mg-AgCL system is widely used for various uses for defence.

PROCESS:
The battery system consists of Mg alloy as anode and sintered AgCl as cathode. The Cell components are housed in plastic containers. Thin plastic wires are used as separators. This battery is activated by either salt water or sea water.

Type of batteries required by Defence:

  • 10V/3Ah capacity Battery (Number of batteries required per annum – 2000 Nos.)
  • Small batteries – 2 V/0.5 Ah capacity Battery.  (Number of batteries required per annum – 3000 Nos.)

FIELD TRIAL: The batteries have been tested in the laboratory as well as in the field trial and found to conform to the specifications.
