HYDRATED LIME
|
Lime,
an excellent time-tested building material along with its
versatile other applications, suffers from the
disadvantage of easy perishability by the atmospheric
moisture and carbon dioxide (CO2). The best
method for retaining the useful properties of lime is to
hydrate it before storing. In addition to its major
application as building materials, hydrated lime is also
used in petro-chemical & pharmaceutical industries,
in the manufacture of grease, paint, etc. The major
applications of hydrated lime are summarised below :-
The hydrated lime is manufactured in different grades depending on the quality of lime-stone and requirement of different end users .The manufacture of hydrated lime offers a good prospect to small scale manufacturers for converting local resource into a very useful product. The manufacturing unit can be located in any place near to the lime stone deposits. PROCESS Dry hydrated lime is obtained by hydrating unslaked lime (obtained by calcining lime stone) with hot water at an elevated temperature and at atmospheric pressure. In order to control the hydration process lime hydration machines are specially designed and fabricated which produces stable dry powdered hydrates of lime. The process of hydration takes place into the hydration machine in the following stages :
The lime hydrator comprises of three horizontal chambers arranged one and the other. The capacity of the chambers adopts to the increase in volume of hydrate during the slaking process i.e. conversion of quick lime into hydrated lime starts. The main part of the slaking process then takes place in the 2nd chamber `HOMOGENIZER' the main slaking chamber wherein preheated water is injected through jets in a controlled manner. The substance enter into a dust collector, and return to the HYDRATOR. The hydrates is then sent to the vibrating screens, placed over storage bins, by means of conveyor and bucket elevator. |
