ELISA KIT FOR TESTOSTERONE
|
Testosterone has an important
role to play in the human for maintenance of secondary sex characteristics.
It is primarily secreted in to the circulation by leydig cells of the testis
in the male, ovaries in the female and by the adrenal cortex in both. A
balance production of this hormone both in the male and the female regulates
the sexual differentiation. In the male, organ development, postnatal
development, pubertal changes and sexual maturation are dependent on normal
availability of the hormone in the circulation and thus to the target organs.
Under production of this hormone in male is common with hypogonodism,
development of female phenotype and infertility. The enzyme linked
immunosorbant assay (ELISA) that is developed is a quantitative in-vitro
diagnostic method for measuring testosterone in serum. It is a simple two and
half hour ELISA method for direct measurement of testosterone in serum. ELISA
kit based on our technology is quick, specific and sensitive. The major
components of this test have been found to be stable at specific temperature
for certain period. This is a 2.5 hour assay
requiring 50 m l serum for measuring testosterone levels in both male and
female. Its performance was evaluated by comparing with Serozyme kit for
testosterone produced by Serono Pvt. Ltd. It gave a correlation coefficient
of 1.08. Although this is
acceptable value, due to problems of sensitivity specially in measuring serum
levels of the testosterone in the female, it is planned to utilised a
heterologous assay to improve its performance. The derivative for enzyme
labelling is being imported for this purpose. The kit will be ready with in
the next few months. Cost of the kit will be
approximately Rs.1,500/- per kit, Marketing costs are extra. |
