TMS320F240 DSP based Real time Digital Controller Development System (Digi Con)



This TMS320F240 DSP based Real time Digital Controller Development System  (Dig icon) is conceived as a general purpose Controller for development and testing of control algorithms in Power Electronics and Process Control. 

The heart of this system is a digital controller PCB built around TMS320F240 TI DSP. This DSP has built in features suitable for Power Electronics Applications. 

A Power supply unit provides 5V and +/-12V required for the operation of the Dig icon.  This system can be used for development and testing of control algorithms for the following:

  • Variable Speed Drives
  • Active front end converters
  • 3-level converter based systems
  • Shunt active filters
  • Dynamic Voltage Restorer(DVR)
  • UPS applications etc

Option 1            : 12 PWM ports terminated with optic fiber transmitters

Option 2            : 12 PWM ports terminated electrically

Option 3            : 6 PWM ports terminated with optic fiber transmitters and 6 electrically terminated  PWMs.
                         The Controller can be configured to control dual phase, 2-level converters or a 3-level converter

  • 12 channels of bipolar (±10V),12 bit, simultaneous sampling external ADCs with a maximum conversion time of 6.6 microseconds when all the channels are selected.

 

The Digital Controller is conceived as a general purpose Controller for Power Electronics and Process Control Applications.  The controller is built around TMS 320 F240 Texas Instruments DSP.  The 16 bit fixed point DSP used has enhanced TMS320 architectural design, low cost and advanced peripherals which are optimized for motion control, digital motor control and power quality systems.  Advanced peripherals include the Event Manager module, which consists of 3 general-purpose timers; compare registers, 12 PWM ports and a dual 10-bit on chip ADC.  The controller PCB is fabricated with six-layer layout to enhance EMI/EMC qualities and also to make the PCB, compact
