Bluetooth Headset

Wireless headsets are becoming one of the popular accessories for mobile handsets.  The provide a safe and hands free way to make and receive calls when it is not convenient to hold a mobile handset.

Bluetooth is the standard radio technology for these products.

The market for headset is set to grow rapidly.  Concern about automotive safety is driving demand for hands free devices for use while driving.  The growth in smart-phones presents an additional opportunity.  These are somewhat large for normal use as a mobile phone.  Instead, users may prefer to choose a smaller, remote device such as a headset to make and receive calls.

Conventional headsets are hampered by the need for a wire connection to the phone.  They are uncomfortable to use and restrict freedom of movement.  Wireless Bluetooth headset are much more compelling.  Users can make and receive calls when their handset is in a pocket, brief case or even in the next room.

The Headset design is an implementation of the Bluetooth Headset profile (section K6 in the Bluetooth profiles specification v1.1).  This defines the facilities needed to make and receive hands free calls from a headset to another Bluetooth device such as a cellular phone.  The Blue Core headset design can communicate with any Bluetooth device incorporating a Headset profile compliant Audio Gateway.
