"Leveraging Innovation Ecosystem for Accelerating Startups"

Date & Venue:
24th-25th March 2017, INSA Auditorium, INSA, Bahadurshah Zafar Marg, New Delhi

Innovation is the key to sustained industrial growth and major source of competitive advantage to industry for penetrating and capturing the global market. Creating a robust national innovation system is one of the key elements listed in the Science Technology Innovation Policy 2013 (STIP 2013) of Government of India. In order to promote a culture of entrepreneurship and innovation in India, the Government of India has launched a flagship initiative “Start-up India” on January 16, 2016. Under this programme, entrepreneurship is expected to be an ever more important source of growth and job creation in the years to come. This programme is also supposed to harness the untapped potential of new technology to and solutions to pressing economic and social problems. The government sees the 'Start-up India Programme' as critical to expediting the entrepreneurial and innovation process in the country. The fundamental premise here is that all layers of challenges to development of inclusive entrepreneurship and innovation need to be systematically addressed to bring about systemic changes in the society and the nation at large. The Indian startup ecosystem has taken off and has matured. Driven by factors such as availability of funding, consolidation activities by a number of firms, evolving technology space and a burgeoning demand within the domestic market has led to the emergence of startups.

To nurture the innovation and entrepreneurship in creating sustained business growth and considering the challenges ahead of us, National Research Development Corporation (NRDC) has been endeavoring to encourage and translate innovations / inventions in to innovative technologies, products and processes emphasizing the need to enhance productivity through technological innovations. Besides, the Government of India has announced in its 19 point Start-up India action plan to facilitate acceleration of start-ups in the country. The Inter-Ministerial Board (IMB) has also entrusted our Corporation to evaluate the applications received from start-ups which will be availing tax sops and other benefits.

Since 2007, NRDC has teamed up to create India’s unique Annual event, “Innovate India”, to bring all stakeholders at one platform to share their experiences and exchange views on developing strong start-up eco-system in the country. With this as a backdrop, NRDC is schedule to organize this year’s annual event “Innovate India 2017” at New Delhi on 24th & 25th March 2017. As customary, the Prize Award Ceremony for conferring NRDC Meritorious Innovation Awards for the Year 2014 and Year 2015 will be held at New Delhi along with a Conference theme focused on “Leveraging Innovation Ecosystem for Accelerating Startups”.
