Thrombinase

The search for new and more efficacious thromolytic agents is a rapidly advancing field of research.  At present, several such imported products are in the market. E.g., Streptokinase, Urokinase and Tissue Plalsminogen Acitvator (TPA).  Thrombinase is novel breakthrough among thrombi dissolving agents, containing a fibrinolytic enzyme Thrombinase isolated, identified and purified for the first time from a Bacillus sp. The drug (Mol. Wt. 20000) has potential use for the treatment of cerebral thromosis (stroke) myuocardiac infraction and deep vein thrombosis and in the prevcention of post surgical adhesions. The Corporation has funded for carrying out the development work in collaboration with Malladi Research Centre, Chennai at a cost of Rs. 80 lakhs. The Corporation is in the process of licensing the technology and it is expected that the important medicine would be available to the people in India at much lower price.  Thrombinase has been patented in India and USA and patent applications have been filed in EPO (4 countries) .
